Time-of-Use Rates
Switch on Savings: Take charge of your energy with Time-of-Use rates Available for residential customers
At Marshall Municipal Utilities, we are committed to providing you with the most efficient and cost-effective energy solutions. We are excited to introduce you to time-of-use rates, a new way to manage your energy usage and potentially save on your electricity bills. With time-of-use rates, you have the power to control your energy consumption and make a positive impact on the environment.
What are Time-of-Use Rates?
Time-of-use (TOU) rates are a pricing structure that varies the cost of electricity based on different times of the day. This means that the price you pay for electricity will vary depending on the time you use it. MMU conducted a rate study to determine on-peak and off-peak usage times as well as the specific TOU rate charges.
Making the switch to TOU rates will be up to each individual residential customer. The key difference between a TOU rate and the standard rate you’re used to is that you pay more for using energy during on-peak hours and less for use during off-peak hours with a TOU rate. With MMU’s standard rate, you are charged the same amount no matter when you use energy. Switching to a TOU rate has many benefits for customers because you have more control. By shifting your energy use to off-peak times, you can save because wholesale electric prices are lower.
Why switch to Time-of-Use Rates?
- Save Money: By shifting your energy consumption to off-peak hours, you can take advantage of lower electricity rates. Running energy-intensive appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, or charging electric vehicles during off-peak hours can result in substantial cost savings over time. According to our estimates, customers with 60% of their energy usage occurring during off-peak hours can save around 4% on their electricity bill during the summer months. That’s based on the average monthly residential usage.
- Conserve Energy: Time-of-use rates incentivize customers to reduce electricity usage during peak hours, helping to alleviate strain on the electricity grid. By participating in this program, you contribute to a more sustainable and efficient energy system, reducing the need for additional power generation and promoting environmental conservation.
