Wastewater UV System Replacement
MMU’s operating permit for our Wastewater Treatment Plant requires all effluent (discharge) into Salt Fork Creek to be disinfected between April 1st thru October 31st of every year. This time period is referred to as the “recreation season”. The equipment used to meet our permit limits uses ultraviolet light (UV) to reduce the amount of E.coli in the effluent. UV light does a very good job disinfecting our effluent and keeps us well below our permit limits.
Our current system, installed in 2012 has had several issues over the last few years and is approaching the point it will require extensive repairs. After comparing the cost to repair versus replacement with a new system, the decision was made to replace the current system. MMU has partnered with Burns & McDonnell to begin the design of a replacement system with the goal of having the equipment designed, bid and purchased by the end of the current recreation season. This would allow the time necessary for removal of the old system and installation of the new system before the beginning of the 2025 recreation season.
