Marshall Municipal Utilities Honored with National Award for Outstanding Safety Practices

MMU Earns Safety Award of Excellence

April 15, 2024: Marshall Municipal Utilities (MMU) has earned the American
Public Power Association’s (APPA’s) Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices
in 2023. The utility earned a Diamond level designation in the category for utilities with
110,000 to 249,999 worker‐hours of annual worker exposure.

“Safety needs to be the first thing on every
employee’s mind as they go about their day,” said Jeff
Bergstrom, General Manager at MMU. “We are proud
of our safety culture and we care deeply about sending
our employees home to their families safely every
single day.”

146 public power utilities from across the country
earned APPA’s Safety Award of Excellence for 2023.
Entrants were placed in categories according to their
number of worker‐hours and ranked based on the most
incident‐free records and overall state of their safety
programs and culture during 2023

APPA is the voice of not‐for‐profit, community‐owned utilities that power 2,000 towns
and cities nationwide.
