"Providing Hometown Reliability"
December 16, 2016: Marshall -
Marshall Municipal Utilities has announced Rick Bailey, John Heilman, Nolan Townsend, Kyle O'Bryan, Eric Perkins, and Aaron Boston as their "Employees of the Year" for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2016. The group was also selected as "Employees of the Quarter" for the quarter ending September 30, 2016. They were selected by a group of their peers from 8 nominations out off a pool of approximately 90 eligible employees.
In nominating the group, Environmental Services Director Ginny Ismay cited their work responding to a basement flooding problem (at the Wastewater Treatment Plant) over the Fourth of July weekend. "A pump failure shortly before midnight on the 2nd led to the basement flooding to at least six feet on the upper basement level. It was Monday, July 4th, before the flow had reduced to a point so the water in the basement could flow into the wet well."
Ismay continued, "[They] spent six hours on July the 4th cleaning the basement, washing it down and disinfecting. On the 5th, they started assessing the damage including pulling the pump. The culprit was a broken impeller bolt. The pump supplier had a replacement, and Nolan was sent to Kansas City to pick it up. The morning of the 6th, they got the impeller bolt replaced and the pump back in the wet well. They continued cleaning in the basement, drying out the grit pumps and grit paddle motors, and assessing the damage."
In conclusion, Ismay stated, "The guys put in a lot of time and effort under stressful conditions to get the headworks back to normal operations."

Townsend joined MMU in November 2006, O'Bryan in July 2013, Perkins in August 2014, and Boston in May 2015.
